On August 14, 2022, Adam Simjee and his girlfriend Mikayla Paulus who was 20 years old were on a hiking trip near Cheaha State Park in Alabama’s Talladega National Forest. The couple discovered Hider who was 21 years old pretending to be a stranded motorist who had vehicle problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The couple stopped to assist, even attempting to use jumper cables and consulting YouTube for fixes. Hider suddenly revealed a gun which she used to compel them into the forest for a robbery attempt. Adam responded to the threat by drawing his gun for self-defense purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A shootout ensued when Adam ordered Hider to lie on the ground but her gun jammed at first before both of them started shooting. Hider received multiple gunshot wounds while he sustained a single fatal gunshot wound. Mikayla used her shirt as a tourniquet while she performed CPR and called 911 from an area with poor signal, but Adam never regained consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
